How to pay less
- Move mid-week or mid-month. Weekend and month-end slots cost 15 to 25% more.
- Declutter first. Almost every mover prices on volume, not on distance alone.
- Pack non-fragile items yourself and leave only glass and electronics to the crew.
- Book four to six weeks ahead for the best rate and a choice of dates.
- Compare three written quotes on what is included, not on the headline price.
- Ask your employer about relocation cover before you pay anything yourself.
- Check the insurance limit per item. Standard cover is often capped well below replacement value.
